Can You Believe Anything Obama Says?

Sunday, November 24th, 2013

Late Saturday night at the White House, Obama pronounced that a tentative agreement with Iran will “cut off Iran’s most likely paths to a bomb.”

“While today’s announcement is just a first step, it achieves a great deal,” Mr. Obama said. “For the first time in nearly a decade, we have halted the progress of the Iranian nuclear program, and key parts of the program will be rolled back.  Iran has committed to halting certain levels of enrichment, and neutralizing part of its stockpile. Iran cannot use its next-generation centrifuges—which are used for enriching uranium.”

Obama said the U.S. and its partners would not agree to any new sanctions that would disrupt the agreement.

For Obama, the Iranian nuclear agreement he wants now needs him to prevent “hard-liners” ( i.e. Republicans) on Capitol Hill and many anxious allies abroad, including Israel, Saudi Arabia, other Persian Gulf states, and France.

“Ultimately only diplomacy can bring about a durable solution,” Obama said. “Now is not the time to move forward on new sanctions – doing so would derail this promising first step, alienate us from our allies, and risk unraveling the coalition that enabled our sanctions to be enforced in the first place.”

Obama’s Middle East Follies

Sunday, November 24th, 2013

Well, well, well. At 3 am today a deal on Iran’s nuclear program apparently was  reached between Iran and six world powers. So says an Associated Press report. Let’s see what that means. The Obama pro-Iranian adminiatration has sold Israel, Saudi Arabia and a lot of Sunni Arabs down the proverbial river. We can now expect a nuclear Iran in the near future with a nuclear arms race in rhe Middle East involving Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Since we know how chaotic, unpredictable and filled with suicide bombers that part of the world is, can one be blamed for betting on a nuclear dead zone in that region in the near future? Oh, and I forgot ––– now we can hear 24–hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week reports, on how marvelous Obama is as a wise peacemaker –––– and let’s us forget about all that right-wing Republican hullaballoo about the metastaric cancer they call ObamaCare.

The Arrogance of Harry Reid and His Criminal Democrat Party

Sunday, November 24th, 2013

As most Americans know by now, the Democrat party in the U.S. Senate just dealt a critical blow to the operation and credibility of that body, by abrogating a 226 year rule allowing the minority in the Senate to filibuster controversial candidates of the majority party for conformation to the federal bench. Here is how former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, analyzed this effort on November 22, 2013:

“No one should be confused about what happened yesterday.

“The Obama Democrats killed the United States Senate as a deliberative body 226 years after the Founding Fathers created it.

“The use of a simple majority to change the Senate rules and eliminate the filibuster on judicial ominees and other appointments–a device that made getting 60 votes a practical necessity–was a decisive first step toward reducing the Senate to a body that operates by simple majority.

“The Democrats have tried to argue that they killed the filibuster only for a handful of presidential nominees. But in fact they’ve killed a tradition that had survived more than two centuries. There will be no principle to stand on to block controversial appointments or legislation in the future.

“This is a big deal, and it will change the culture of the Senate profoundly. And the Obama Democrats understood exactly what they were doing.

“In 2005 as a senator, Barack Obama himself said that “everyone in this chamber knows that if the majority chooses to end the filibuster, if they choose to change the rules and put an end to democratic debate, then the fighting, the bitterness, and the gridlock will only get worse.”

“The same year Senator Joe Biden said, “We should make no mistake. This nuclear option is ultimately an example of the arrogance of power. It is a fundamental power grab by the majority party… We have been through these periods before in American history but never, to the best of my knowledge, has any party been so bold as to fundamentally attempt to change the structure of this body.”

“He called it “the single most important vote” he had cast during his three decades in the Senate.

“He said “I pray God when the Democrats take back control, we don’t make the kind of naked power grab you are doing.”

“Senator Harry Reid himself praised the filibuster at the time, lauding it as “far from a procedural gimmick.” It is, he said, “part of the fabric of this institution we call the Senate.”

“That is what Senator Reid and the other Obama Democrats destroyed yesterday, fully aware of the permanent damage they were causing in order to achieve fleeting political goals.

“That trade of long-term stability for short-term gain is exactly the opposite of the wisdom the framers of the Constitution intended for the Senate (a big part of the reason the body exists in the first place). The Founders were worried that the House, with its frequent election cycles and small Congressional districts, would be shortsighted, easily impassioned, and unaccountable for the ultimate consequences of their decisions.

“The Senate was supposed to guard against this danger, as a “temperate and respectable body of citizens…to suspend the blow meditated by the people against themselves, until reason, justice, and truth can regain their authority over the public mind,” as Madison put it in Federalist 63. It would do so by making decisions for the long term, he thought–“well-chosen and well-connected measures, which have a gradual and perhaps unobserved operation.”

“Until yesterday, the filibuster was one such device–an important protection which for centuries had been inviolable.

“Harry Reid and the Obama Democrats’ reckless decision to kill it will change the Senate forever.”

President Obama  “directed” (  What!? Can he do that!? Is he some kind of a dictator!?) insurance companies to offer Americans, whose health plans were canceled by the Affordable Care Act, the option of renewing those plans without change. Not only does he flout the Constitution, but shifts the blame for the problem on the insurance companies and the State Insurance Commissioners if they can’t accomplish this “directive,” which is likely, since they all had spent the past 3 years gearing up to adhere to the rules of ObamaCare, WHICH OBAMA IS NOW CHANGING!!

Thursday, November 14th, 2013

Fox News has reported today what difficulties of lack of trust and lack of options Obama faces in the Affordable Care Act debacle.

The White House is trying very hard to pretend that the world isn’t falling to pieces right now – sending President Obama off to Ohio to tout global warming curbs and his economic plan and then on to another fundraiser tonight. But as new enrollment numbers show, the prognosis for Obama’s central policy ambition looks dire. It’s becoming increasingly clear that ObamaCare is headed for some major surgery in Congress. So what does the president want to do? For a chief executive famous for an inability to deal with lawmakers, even of his own party, the weeks ahead look perilous. Democrats, including most moderates and some liberals, are decrying the administration’s botched rollout and decision not to honor Obama’s campaign promise to allow Americans to keep their health plans. And the president has precious little political capital to bring them around to protecting his law.

[One month ago, the Fox New poll showed Democrats leading Republicans by 8 points in the generic congressional ballot. Now, Republicans lead by 3 points.]

A damaged brand – A new Fox News poll finds half of respondents believe the president knowingly lied when he made the notorious “you can keep it” pledge, while 40 percent said Obama didn’t know that the promise wouldn’t be kept. Nearly 60 percent believe the administration knew ahead of time that people would be kicked off their insurance because of the law, and 55 percent think the White House has “tried to deceive” people about it. As for his recent apology to Americans losing their health insurance because of ObamaCare, a majority believe it was “mostly for political reasons.” That trust breach has badly damaged the president. Obama’s job ratings have sunk to an all-time low, with 55 percent disapproving of his performance. Perceptions of his leadership skills are also in trouble. Voters are three times as likely to view his leadership as poor (39 percent) compared to excellent (13 percent). On the issues: a record-high 61 percent disapprove of Obama’s handling of health care, and an even higher 66 percent disapprove of the president’s handling of the deficit.

Can you believe in change? – Over the past two weeks, the White House has been trying to draw a new firewall on changes to ObamaCare. Administrative fixes turned into an openness to talking about legislation to, on Wednesday, praising a bill from Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., that would force President Obama to honor his campaign pledge. Today, Senate Democrats will meet with White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough to vent and strategize. A similar session on Wednesday with House Democrats got quite heated, with several lawmakers coming out fuming. House members face a painful vote Friday as Republicans bring forward a plan to allow all Americans to enroll in any current policy, even if it is banned by ObamaCare. A senior House Democrat told the administration, “No more excuses, just get it done!” To further complicate matters, officials working on healthcare.gov told a House Panel Wednesday they were unsure of how much it would cost to fix the site, after $600 million has already been spent.  [
