The Merry Month of May

Thursday, May 30th, 2013

As the month of May, 2013,  fades  into the dull and dumbed down history of this poor benighted year, it is clear we have a federal government in disarray –––  scandal (Benghazi) after scandal (the IRS) after scandal (journalist records) –––  on top of five years flouting the Constitution and lie after lie after lie.
Actually, the most egregious of all the awful actions of this awful Administration concerns the Presidents statements about  the “War on Terror” on Memorial Day. Hey, everyone, guess what? The war on terror is over! We won! Now, if buildings are blown up and marathon murders and mayhem are caused by jihadists,  we’ll call these events crimes and send in the police and the FBI. And if we ever catch the perps, we’ll read them their Miranda rights and put them in jail with three hot meals a day and copies of the Koran.
Maybe this is all a bad dream. Maybe we’ll wake up and find out that we’ve all been in a parallel universe for the past five years and we are now back in the good old, patriotic USA, where our President and at least most of our Senators and Representatives love America and want to defend it –––  and where the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are still sacrosanct.

Is the First Amendment Any Longer Relevant in the Era of Obama?

Tuesday, May 14th, 2013

It looks like the police state is out in full force in the USA. Another Obama scandal!! It was learned late last week that the Obama Justice Department secretly and illegally obtained Associated Press private phone records.

The Justice Department secretly got two months of telephone records of  Associated Press reporters and editors. The AP’s top executive called this a “massive and unprecedented intrusion” into how a news organizations assembles the news.

Associated Press attorneys alleged that the Justice Department tallied incoming and outgoing calls, and the duration of each call, of the work and personal phone numbers of each reporter, the general AP office numbers in New York, Washington and Hartford, Conn., and the main number for AP reporters in the House of Representatives press gallery.

The Justice Department seized the records of  20 or more separate telephone lines assigned to AP and its journalists in April and May of 2012. No one knows the precise number of journalists who used the phone lines during that period,  but more than 100 journalists work in offices whose phone records were targeted concerning a  large number of stories about government and related issues.

Associated Press President and Chief Executive Officer, Gary Pruitt, sent a letter of protest to Attorney General Eric Holder, saying that the government got information far beyond anything that could be justified by any specific investigation. Pruitt demanded that the Justice Department  return the phone records and that all copies be destroyed.

Everyone knows that the AP is an Obama “lap dog.” One wonders if the news organization is going to have second thoughts about the Administration now?  And if the Obama regime does this to its friends, what will it do to its enemies??

Benghazi and the IRS

Sunday, May 12th, 2013

Today is Sunday and we have been deluged with the usual Sunday talk shows. The big items were the Benghazi investigation and the IRS scandal.
This week, Gregory Hicks, former deputy chief of mission in Libya and Mark Thompson and Eric Nordstrom who work in the counterterrorism and security branch of the State Department testified about what happened in Benghazi on September 11, 2012 and how the death of Chris Stevens, the American ambassador in Libya and three other Americans were killed by a terrorist attack orchestrated by an al-Qaeda affiliate. Their testimony made clear: THAT by September 12th, the State Department knew the attack had been a terrorist one; THAT Susan Rice, Jay Carney, Hillary Clinton, and numerous others lied that the attack was not terrorist and that it was precipitated by an anti-Muslim video (that no one had ever seen ––– and one cannot forget the infomercial that Hillary and the president made a few days later that was seen all over the Muslim world indicating that the maker of that “terrible” video would be prosecuted for the crime); THAT Cheryl Mills, Chief of Staff for Clinton threatened Hicks, Thompson, Nordstrom and others in an effort to silence them and keep them from testifying before Congress; THAT the State Department’s Accountability Review Board protected all of the higher up’s and blamed career officials in the State Department for the obvious lies concerning the Benghazi attack; THAT requests had been made to beef up protection weeks before the attack on September 11th and that Hillary Clinton knew about this and agreed that no new security personnel were necessary (in previous testimony, Clinton denied this by saying she was never informed about the request); THAT military forces in Tripoli were headed for planes to go to Benghazi to try to help defend the consulate, but were told to “stand down” much to the anger of the Lieutenant Colonel. who was to lead the group. And no one seems to know who gave that order.
There’s so much more. It appears that the American people were lied to because Barack Obama was afraid the scandal would harm his reelection. So, can one say that the Obama administration had conspired to alter the results of the presidential election? Was that a crime? Will a select committee be chosen to investigate this?

And now a new scandal has surfaced involving the IRS intimidation of political groups. This effort began in 2011 and continued through the 2012 election. The Internal Revenue Service flagged conservative political groups for additional reviews during the 2012 election to “detect  violations” of their tax-exempt status, a top IRS official, Lois Lerner, who heads the IRS division that oversees tax-exempt groups, said on Friday, May 10th. She indicated that organizations were singled out because their title included the words “tea party” or “patriot” in their applications for tax-exempt status. She said that some of these groups were asked for their list of donors. This violates IRS policy in most cases,.
Will Congress investigate this? Was this a means to effect the presidential election? Was that a crime? And is it another lie to indicate that this was the work of lower-level bureaucrats and that the upper echelon new nothing about this? And if anyone believes that, we have a bridge to sell them?
