Title: Blog by Novelist William S. Frankl, MD

Irene Goodnight, Irene Goodnight.

I’m sitting in my study at 5:45 p.m. on August 27, 2011. The rain is pelting my windows. The wind is growling in my ear. Some time between now and 11 or 12 midnight a hurricane called, Irene, will hit us. Meanwhile I sit hunkered in my house expecting the worst and hoping for the best. I’m not alone. Oh, no. Twenty plus million other hunkered down souls in my region are in the same boat ( bad joke). It’s times like this that one wonders why we humans worry about the trivial when the great untamed forces of nature scream at us: “You’re tiny, insignificant insects in the life of the universe.”  You bet.
