A Crack in the Defense of ObamaCare?

Several days ago,  President Obama announced that he was endorsing an accelerated schedule to allow states to opt out of Obamacare. This would allow States to opt out of the law in 2014. Was this a significant concession to Republicans? Or an attempt to reach out to the nation’s governors grappling with budget deficits? or both? However, some of the law’s supporters insist the President’s new position is designed to enhance the Administration’s legal case in defense of the law in court.

On the other hand, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said that “Obama’s announcement only reinforces the case that the national health-care law impedes job growth.”

And finally, to quote from a New York Times front page article on 3/1: “The President’s shift comes as the law is under fierce attack in the courts and from Republicans on Capitol Hill and in statehouses around the country.”

Let us hope the attack succeeds and that a true and well thought-out reform of the medical system can be achieved.
