More Solzhenitsyn

I would like to make a few more comments about Alexander Solzhenitsyn. He became a fighter for the rights of Man through his great books. These books include:

One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich: a novella set in a prison camp. Iit was strongly anti-Stalinist and anti-Soviet. (1962).

The First Circle: an autobiography set in a prison research institute.(1968).

Cancer Ward: this is a novel set in a clinic in Tashkent, Uzbekistan where he himself had gone for cancer therapy.(1968).

The Gulag Archipelago: this was a seven part non-fiction work published in three volumes that traced the history of the Soviet concentration camp system. It had a profound impact on the Soviet Union and world history.(1973).

The Oak and the Calf, about which I spoke in my first post.(1979).

These books are all worth reading, but are difficult because of their contents and their length, especially The Gulag Archipelago.
